  • More than 20 international fellowships (in US, Germany, Singapore & UK) available.
  • Interviews to be held during IFASCON 2019
  • Fellow will get a certificate from IFAS for the fellowship on successful completion and will be felicitated during the next IFASCON
  • The application process for the fellowships will be managed by the IFAS fellowship committee and the details submitted in the application form will be forwarded to the Indian Foot & Ankle Society
  • Eligility
    • The applicant needs to be an IFAS member
    • The applicant needs to register for IFASCON 2019
    • The applicant has to present a poster/paper at IFASCON 2019

    • Graduation and post graduation degree certificate
    • Statement of purpose detailing why you are interested in applying for the fellowship
    • Updated CV + photograph
    • One LOR – Letter of recommendation from a senior surgeon you have worked with

International Fellowships

  • I. Place of fellowship - The Golden Jubilee National Hospital, Glasgow, UK
    • Mentor- Dr Kalpesh Shah
    • Expected Duration – 12-24 months (minimum 12 months for fellowship. Shorter duration of 3 months available for observership)
    • Whether any financial support available – Yes salary on NHS payscale for fellowship
    • Any Research opportunity - Yes, the institute is very active in research, and there will be plenty of opportunities
    • Details - No of fellows we can take for 20-21: 1 or 2

  • II. Place of fellowship - Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Caerleon, Wales, UK
    • Mentor- Dr. Kartik Hariharan
    • Expected Duration – Can be from an observership to formalised fixed term train if GMC registrable
    • Whether any financial support available - Yes will be salaried for formal training as per current NHS salary payscales (no financial assistance for observership)
    • Any Research opportunity - Plenty
    • Details - No of fellows we can take for 20-21: unsure at the moment but will find out by the time I come to Delhi

  • III. Place of fellowship - University of Texas Medical Branch, USA
    • Mentor- Dr. Vinod Panchbhavi
    • Expected Duration – 2 weeks to 3 months

  • IV. Place of fellowship - Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA
    • Mentor- Dr. Ashish Shah
    • Expected Duration – 6 weeks to 3 months
    • Whether any financial support available – Subsidiary accommodation for $ 350-400/month on shared basis
    • Any Research opportunity - Yes can work with my 4 full time research fellows

  • V. Place of fellowship - Kings College Hospital, London, UK
    • Mentor- Dr. Venu Kavarthapu
    • Expected Duration – 6-8 weeks
    • Whether any financial support available – There is no funding available for these fellowships. All observers / fellows have to pay a NHS HR process fee of about £200. They have to go through a full medical clearance (usually health questionnaire). This gives them a temporary hospital contract and an official certificate.

    • Details - NA
    • Experience -
      • We have an international fellowship programme in our foot and ankle unit-most people come for diabetic foot reconstructive surgery experience.
      • The fellows could expect abundant exposure to trauma (King’s is the second largest Level 1 Trauma Centre in UK), Elective Foot & Ankle surgery work including Charcot Foot Reconstruction (largest multi-disciplinary clinic in Europe and highest number of reconstruction procedures in UK). Our fellowship programme is full until August 2019 (6 fellows worldwide are attending during the Charcot Reconstruction Symposium time.
    • Recognised fellowship – Weekly payment of about £500 to the hospital. This involves provding access to workshop etc. Will get official certificate
    • Observership – Indian fellows usually prefer this. Will get official certificate
    • Accommodation – Most fellows identify accommodation locally through websites etc.

  • VI. Place of fellowship - ATOS Klinik Heidelberg, Germany

    • Expected Duration – 3 months

      • Very coveted centre for learning from the masters of foot and ankle surgery. Fellow will get experience in both adult and paediatric foot and ankle surgery
      • My Partner agreed that we will provide a combined F&A and paediatric F&A observership/fellowship. I would like to see and interview 3 candidates.
